Installing an SSL certificate on Novell ConsoleOne

Part one: Download and save your certificates

1. Open the email we sent you, that contains the certificate for your domain name.

2. Copy the certificate, including the -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE----- lines.

3. Paste the certificate into a blank document in a text editor. Use an editor that will not add characters, such as TextPad.

4. Save the document. We recommend that you name it YourDomainName.crt and save it in your Web server's default directory for SSL certificates.

   We recommend that you also back up your certificate on another computer or storage device.

5. Confirm which certificate you purchased, and determine which set of Root and Intermediate certificates to download.

   To confirm which certificate you purchased, review your order confirmation.

   • If you purchased SBS Instant, download set A below.

   • If you purchased SBS Secure or Secure Plus, download set B below.

   A -- SBS Instant

   • Instant Validation UTN Global Root CA
   • Instant Validation AddTrust Intermediate 1 CA
   • Instant Validation SBS Intermediate 2 CA

   -OR-

   B -- SBS Secure and Secure Plus

   • Full Validation AddTrust Root CA
   • Full Validation Intermediate CA

6. Download the Root-Intermediate set for your domain name certificate. To download, right-click each certificate file name and select Save Target As.

   Save the Root and Intermediate certificates to the same directory where you saved the certificate for your domain name.

Part two: Install your certificates

In order for visitors' browsers to recognize your certificate as authentic and trustworthy, you must install it with the Intermediate and Root certificates that tie it to its issuing Certification Authority.

1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains the certificate for your domain name, and its Root and Intermediate certificates.

2. Double-click each certificate file and click Install Certificate. The Root certificate must go into your Trusted Root Certification Authorities store, and the Intermediate certificate(s) (two for SBS Instant, one for SBS Secure or Secure Plus) must go into your Intermediate Certification Authorities store.

3. Double-click the certificate for your domain name.

4. Click the Details tab, and then click Copy to File.

   

5. Select Cryptographic Message Syntax Standard - PKCS #7 Certificates (.P7B) and check the Include all certificates in the certification path if possible check box. Click Next.

   

6. Give the certificate chain a name, and click Finish. This will create a single certificate chain from the individual certificates.
7. Go to ConsoleOne, and then to the certificate that created the CSR.
8. In the Public Key Certificate tab, choose Import, then select No Trusted Root Certificate available. Click Next.

9. Click Import the Server Certificate you created.

   You may recive a warning that says The subject name requested when the key pair was generated does not match the subject name in the certificate being stored. If you receive this warning, click the OK button to import the certificate anyway.

10. After you have validated the certificate, it is ready for use. You may have to stop and start the Web server computer (not just restart) before the certificate takes effect.
